Three students in the Transit Planning course taught by Carrie Makarewicz, assistant professor of urban and regional planning, volunteered at the first annual “Transportation Girl” event on September 7, 2017, representing the field of transportation planning. Coordinated by the US DOT West Central Small Business Transportation Research Center with RTD and Adams County as major sponsors, the event was to promote the fields of construction and transportation to girls in middle and high school. Master of Urban and Regional Planning students Elyse Applegate and Jenny Godwin and PhD student in Engineering Manze Guo are members of the student chapter of WTS, the international organization to support women in transportation.
