Maria Novotná joins the College of Architecture and Planning as a Visiting Scholar, supported by the Department of Architecture and the Department of Landscape Architecture.
Novotná is a PhD student studying architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. She is currently researching the history of alpine architecture, a project titled, "Mountain Solitudes."
The primary goal of her research is to comprehend the influence of modernity on architectural practices and the process of colonization in mountainous environments. Her work emphasizes structural, typological, and technological innovations that have created unique architectural masterpieces. The project endeavors to map the design approaches employed in mountainous environments, thereby summarizing various perspectives on the relationship between architecture, the mountain environment, and human interaction.
On Monday, February 17, 2025, Novotná will present a public lecture as part of the College of Architecture and Planning's lecture series.
