AIAS PUBLIC RESTROOM DESIGN COMPETITION
CAP | CAP Sep 17, 2018Our students take on creative challenges! The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) University of Colorado Denver Chapter partnered with the City of Denver Department of Public Works on a competition to create designs for new fixed public restrooms. Students were asked to come up with a conceptual, creative design with a component of feasibility: complying with technical requirements, potential likeability by the public, and recognition of the structure as a bathroom.
The $300 winning prize went to Lorin Crandall (Master of Urban and Regional Planning) and Khawla Khalifa (Master of Urban Design). It was a very tight race with all four teams in close competition. The students were able to present their work at the Wellington Webb Building to some of the top officials in the City of Denver, including city planners, liaisons to the Mayor's office, and various department directors as well as employees.
