Urban and Regional Planning Professor Jeremy Németh's research on the effects of parks on gentrification was recently featured on  LSE US Centre's daily blog on American Politics and Policy. In a blog post titled "Not all new parks are linked to gentrification in low-income neighborhoods," Professor Németh and his research partner Alessandro Rigolon describe their recent study, which looks at parks in ten different American cities to determine if park size, location, function, and quality affected gentrification trends in nearby neighborhoods. 

Their study found that long, thin, centrally-located parks such as New York's High Line were the most likely to cause gentrification. In areas outside of the core city, parks big and small had little effect on gentrification.
