2020 Graduate Projects -Colorado Building Workshop
Sep 8, 2020Colorado Building Workshop 2020
We just adore this animation created by the Colorado Building Workshop (CBW), the highly acclaimed design-build program housed at CAP. Each year, the program provides a select group of graduate students the chance to design and construct a building in a rural or urban setting.
This year’s cohort is creating two bike storage pavilions for the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. The animation was created by CBW students to showcase the design of the shelters and to spotlight the project’s team members in a fun and engaging way.
The goal of the project is to increase bike commuting by offering a secure place for bicycle storage. The structures will be available to students attending classes at one of the three universities that comprise the Auraria Campus (CU Denver, Metropolitan State, and Community College of Denver).
CBW is collaborating with the Auraria Higher Education Center and Auraria Sustainable Campus Program on the project. Construction is slated to begin on August 1. Woot woot!
The student team members are as follows: Liz Whitacre, Jackie Lund, Sam Lara, Justin Trammell, Steph Protsman, Ryan Couto, Grant Warmerdam, Kai Eldredge, Sarka Malosikova, Kyle Brunner, Johnny English, Christopher Tryba, Dave Wirth, Matt Milne, Cecilia Richey, Eric Kuhn, Jake Cusick, Lea Moguet, Minttu Aaltonen, Adrienne Guilla, Dan Spieler, Hank Kelly, Olive Collier, Jesse Terzic, Randy Chu, and Graham Oden.
The CBW leaders are: Rick Sommerfeld, director and professor; Will Koning, CAP alumnus and Bixler Design Build Fellow; Kate Hartung, program manager; and Andy Paddock, structural engineer.
