Jennifer Steffel Johnson PhD

Jenny has been a part of the Urban and Regional Planning Department faculty since 2010. She served as the associate department chair for over a decade, and continues to serve as the Capstone project coordinator for the department. She recently became the Co-Director of the college’s Graduate Certificate in Affordable Housing.

Jenny is passionate about experiential education, and incorporates opportunities for students to make real-world impacts in her courses, such as annually undertaking affordable housing design charrettes for real clients in partnership with Housing Colorado.

Her previous work experience includes being the Senior Policy Analyst for the Partnership for Working Families, the Director of Cooperative Education for the College of Engineering and Technology at Northern Arizona University, and the Assistant Director of Housing Programs for a Washington, D.C.-area non-profit organization. Additionally, she has been a professional academic copy editor for nearly three decades, including being the staff copy editor for the University of Cincinnati’s Children, Youth and Environments journal. Prior to working at CU Denver, she taught many courses (ranging from AutoCAD to Environment and Behavior) at Northern Arizona University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.
