Jo VandenBurg is a licensed architect and instructor in the College of Architecture and Planning, where she teaches courses on building technology.

Her experience in Denver Design-Build firms brings an appreciation of the synergistic relationship that construction fieldwork and detailing has on the design intent of the project. She also has an undergraduate degree and professional experience in Aerospace Engineering, and uses that background to help Architecture students understand the analysis for material mechanics, structural theory and preliminary sizing. She uses experiential teaching to bring pragmatic content to life.

Currently, she is also the co-instructor for the Study Abroad program, International Design Build – Nicaragua. Through a relationship with a local non-profit, Boulder-Jalapa Friendship Cities Project, where undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in the design and construction of a community service building in an economically challenged location.
