MURP Student Organizations

American Planning Association Student Chapter (APAS)

MURP students are strongly encouraged to become active with APAS, the CU Denver student chapter of the American Planning Association, which promotes the involvement of student planners in local, regional, and national planning activities and provides a mechanism through which students can interact with professionals, address common concerns, and receive support in their endeavors in the field of planning.

APAS’s goals are:

  • Facilitate communication and engagement between the students in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program at CU Denver, the state chapter (APA Colorado) and the national APA organization.
  • Provide the mechanism whereby student planners can influence the development of the planning profession.
  • Serve as a social network for the CU Denver MURP students.
  • Represent the needs of MURP students to CU Denver, College of Architecture and Planning, and MURP program faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate monthly meetings with students to maintain communication and to encourage proactive involvement among students.
APAS raises funds to help with student scholarships to the state and national APA conferences. They host educational events such as “Breakfast with Professionals” to allow students an opportunity to engage professional planners in an informal setting, and they put on additional events or provide learning opportunities for students and professional alike. Each spring and fall, APAS hosts picnics and other social events for students to connect with one another outside of the classroom setting. All MURP students are welcome to participate in APAS; there’s no official “joining” necessary and there are no dues or specific commitments required. All MURP students will receive communications from APAS. For more, visit APAS’s Facebook page.
